We are excited to welcome the work of Laura C. Wright at the Steam Plant.
Laura is bringing new textile artwork created with plant dyes grown and foraged in the Duwamish Valley, to explore social and environmental issues in the region.
Co-opting pollution and environmental injustice, the work harnesses features such as an arsenic laced river and lead covered plants (from small aircraft fuel) to improve the lustre and depth of the dye, invasive weeds that survive in the margins of asphalt, and birch bark dye from a beloved tree lost to climate change.
Opening reception Saturday, March 8th from 5-8pm. Visiting this exhibit is free.
March 8-29 open to the public Thursdays 6-8pm and by appointment. To schedule a viewing contact lauracwright.art@gmail.com.
