Atlas Obscura and Modular Seattle present Sound of the Machine, a sensory event for the ages.
A vibrant tapestry of artists and musicians come together to enliven the Georgetown Steam Plant with light and sound. This iconic building—a reminder of the era of electrification and early industry in Seattle—will bear witness to some bold offerings ranging from improvisatory buchla to hypnotic string arrangements, theremin and other surprises. Join us to experience this incredible historic landmark brought to life by a powerhouse lineup of distinct voices working in electronic, experimental, and electroacoustic music across the Northwest.
The event features 17 musical artists performing across three stages located in the Turbine Room, Boiler Room, and Ash Room of the historic Steam Plant. Enter the bowels of this cavernous industrial relic and be transported from dreamy ambience to engulfing darkness and back again.
LUSIO will dress the Steam Plant with light, while Shado provides precision laser work and Nick Bigelow and Blazinspace offer mind-melting projected visuals.
